Olivier Messiaen Petites esquisses d'oiseaux
NO INTERVAL
Messiaen had the highest regard for George Benjamin, describing him as 'gifted like no-one else.' Shadowlines is a supremely imaginative approach to the art of writing canons, dedicated to Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
The Petites esquisses d'oiseaux were composed as Messiaen was emerging from the exhaustion of writing his magnus opus Saint Francois d'Assise, although they sound the very opposite of fatigued.
