Next of Kin
Friday 23 May 2008 - Saturday 24 May 2008
Finnish choreographer Tero Saarinen presents the UK premiere of his new creation and Southbank Centre commission, Next of
Kin - a surrealistic dive into the collective unconscious. Saarinen is known for his unique choreographic style, which combines
features of classical ballet, Butoh, martial arts and Western contemporary dance, and together with lighting designer Mikki
Kunttu and costume designer Erika Turunen, Tero Saarinen Company’s works have won wide international acclaim.
In Next of Kin, the almost cinematic visual experience is completed by the music of contemporary composer Jarmo Saari, performing
several different instruments live on stage with the dancers, including glass harp, theremin, viol de gamba and kalimba.
‘I’ve not seen, or experienced, anything like it’ (Guardian).
