Series imageInternational Chamber Music Season 2010/11

A stellar line-up of classical music’s greatest names visit the 2010/11 International Chamber Music Season. Sir Simon Rattle, Mitsuko Uchida, Lang Lang, Vadim Repin, Imogen Cooper, Mark Padmore and Mischa Maisky appear in a season which also welcomes chamber ensembles formed from such revered orchestras as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the thrillingly exuberant Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra.

Three talented violinists – Daniel Hope, Christian Tetzlaff and Julia Fischer – showcase their unique artistry, while the very boundaries of string quartet writing are explored by the Arditti and Emerson quartets, alongside Southbank Centre Associate Artists the Takács Quartet, who return following their astonishing complete Beethoven series last season. Cornerstones of the chamber repertoire are interpreted anew alongside bold explorations of modern writing, including a world premiere by one of the contemporary music’s most exciting compositional voices, Thomas Adès.

Chamber music is one of the most expressive and intimate forms of music making. A personal form of musical conversation, it requires a deep understanding and fluid communication between the individual performers. To watch great chamber musicians interact and respond to each other’s playing whilst performing some of the greatest music in the classical music repertoire is always a privilege.

This series reflects the diverse and varied nature of chamber music; we look forward to sharing this feast of music with you.
