Nikolai Demidenko piano
Chopin has been at the centre of this superb Russian pianist's career for many years; tonight he performs some of the lesser-known works, including the Bolero and the virtuosic Variations on Mozart's La ci darem la mano. The all-Schumann second half includes the composer's tender musical portrait of his friend Chopin amid the musical caricatures of Carnaval.
'Demidenko's razor-sharp articulacy and immaculate dexterity are complemented by the finest musical grace and individuality' (Gramophone).
Queen Elizabeth Hall at 6.15pm. Virtuosity redefined, a pre-concert talk by John Rink. Admission free.
