From his career defining stint with Miles Davis, to his acclaimed solo projects and collaborations with the likes of Joe Lovano or cult jam band Medeski, Martin and Wood guitarist John Scofield is unquestionably a modern master of the guitar. Yet for all his angular post-Miles grooves Sco's restless creativity now sees him return to his roots for his latest blues-soaked project. The Piety Street band, named after his latest Emarcy album, mixes soulful blues with gospel and New Orleans style R&B creating feel good music for the heart and the hips. The supporting cast of players is steeped in these musical traditions and includes English keyboardist Jon Cleary (B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal), legendary Meters bassist George Porter Jr. and the charismatic vocals New Orleans native John Boutte.
Part of the London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3.
