After the austeries of the 40s I saw a bright hopeful future being built. I was intoxicated by this vision, a beautiful building of simple, uncluttered public luxury and a signpost to the second half of the 20th century. After fifty years it was still a testimony to the lightness of its conception and will now live on as a beacon for another fifty years
