As well as being visually stunning, the gamelan offers a unique chance for groups of people
to make music through regular classes or one-off taster sessions, regardless of previous musical experience or ability.
The gamelan can be thought of as one instrument played by lots of people and produces the most amazing rich and sonorous sounds. The great thing about the gamelan is that as well as being used to learn traditional Indonesian pieces in numerous styles, the instruments can provide a great opportunity for group composition and improvisation.
Playing gamelan is both a rewarding musical and social experience. Participating in workshops and classes can inspire self-confidence, help co-ordination and listening skills, encourage interaction and team-building and be a great chance to try something new.
