Johannes Brahms String Quartet in B flat, Op.67
As part of their residency at Southbank Centre, the Takacs Quartet have been involved in a two-year education project, which
culminates in tonight's world premiere of James Macmillan's Quartet No.3, specially written for them. The concert
includes Haydn's quartet Op.74, written for his trip to London in 1793. It gets its nickname from the galloping rhythms
in the outer movements.
The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall at 9.45pm: Post-concert talk.
Immediately following the premiere of James MacMillan's String Quartet No.3, the composer and the Takacs Quartet discuss
the piece and the process of working together. The event is hosted by Southbank Centre's Head of Contemporary Culture
Gillian Moore and Head of Music, Marshall Marcus.
James MacMillan's piece was specially commissioned by Southbank
Centre for the Takacs Quartet.
