A welcome return for this superb orchestra with its annual inspiring tribute concert to the genius of George Gershwin, featuring
the renowned concert pianist James Pearson.
A full supporting programme of the symphonic jazz of Artie Shaw and
Benny Goodman captures all the excitement of the great Carnegie Hall concerts of the 1940s which is brought to life under
the baton of the charismatic and inspirational Paul Eshelby and features the awesome talents of the band's jazz soloists.
The evening includes performances of Gershwin's spine-chilling third movement of Concerto in F, American in Paris
and the original jazz orchestral version of Rhapsody in Blue as performed at its premiere in 1924.
The Orchestra
also features some of the original compositions of Wally Fields including his momentous Concerto in Jazz and the powerful
Partizan Rhapsody, the tribute to the fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, which received its world premiere in Royal Festival
Hall with the sponsorship of the Polish Foreign Ministry.
'Iconic' (BBC Radio 3).
'Gershwin, as
Gershwin intended' (Liverpool Daily Post).
