Royal Festival Hall
Martha Wainwright and Band
Monday 19 May 2008, 8pm
With a hugely expressive voice and an arsenal of powerful songs, Martha is a beguiling entertainer and a refreshingly different,
new force in music.
Daughter of folk legends Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle and sister of acclaimed
singer songwriter Rufus Wainwright, Martha spent her childhood immersed in music. In 2005 she released the eponymous 'Martha
Wainwright' to great critical and commercial acclaim. Also a dynamic performer, Martha took a turn in Martin Scorsese’s
The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio as well as supporting artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Van Morrison, Neko Case, Snow Patrol,
Pete Townsend and Sean Lennon.
Undoubtedly her own person, with her own sense of style, Martha creates her own
music with an extraordinary versatile and compelling voice, she performs from her new album due to be released later in 2008.
