Sunday Surprises Part 2

Part of Robert Smith’s Meltdown

Rock out with bands chosen by Meltdown curator, Robert Smith: Kite Base, Martinez, Blue Crime, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Skinny Girl Diet and Pumarosa.

Kite Base, 1pm – 1.30pm
Two bass guitarists are better than one for this moody duo, made up of Ayse Hassan (Savages) and Kendra Frost, who mix insistent industrial rock with synth sounds and slick vocals to glorious effect.

Martinez, 2pm – 2.30pm
Nostalgic indie pop from the Swiss pair, whose heart-tugging tunes and multilayered vocals will have you bopping along.

Blue Crime, 3pm – 3.30pm
Inspired by myths, dreams and parallel universes, Blue Crime's amorphous sonic force is a deeply immersive live experience.

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, 4pm – 4.30pm
If you like your metal doom-laden, you’ve come to the right place. Unrelenting riffs are topped with Jessica Ball's surprisingly sweet, soaring voice, to create a sound that appeals across genres.

Skinny Girl Diet, 5pm – 5.30pm
Riot grrrl is alive and kicking you in the face with the Skinny Girl Diet sisters’ raw, abrasive guitar music, which has attracted attention from the likes of Iggy Pop himself.

Pumarosa, 6pm – 7pm
Monumental, haunting and transcendental – Pumarosa’s particular brand of alt-rock may be hard to define, but it is easy to luxuriate in.
