Come and listen as we read Roald Dahl’s Matilda cover to cover.

‘So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: you are not alone.’

Join a whole host of people, from children to some well-known faces, including Lisa Davina Phillip as Mrs Phelps from the multi award-winning Matilda The Musical, as they read the book aloud.

Readers are accompanied by live dance, illustration, music, singing and pop-ups including a performance from the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda The Musical.

See a pop-up dance performance by young people from SLiDE Dance, hear singing with Laura Howe and the Voicelab Children’s Choir, interpreted by Life and Deaf, and see illustrations by Mark Oliver and children from Myatt Garden Primary School through the Beanstalk Charity.

Also, take part in drop-in workshops throughout the day. Can anyone beat Roald Dahl for coming up with unusual, funny characters? Try creating a Dahl character with Inclusive Minds – Bruce Bogtrotter, Miss Trunchbull, Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Arthur Slugworth, Prince Pondicherry, Mr Snoddy...

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be Matilda when she discovers she has magical powers? Or Bruce Bogtrotter when faced with eating an entire gloopy chocolate cake in one sitting? Excited? Or scared? Explore these feelings with EmpathyLab.

Readers include:
Mrs Phelps (Lisa Davina Phillip), Cerrie Burnell, Carrie Grant, Bernadette Russell, Holly Smale, Rani Price, Tara Chakroborty, Keira Chakroborty, Freddie Peters, Rhael Cape, Renee Keill, Selina Nwulu, Catherine Johnson, Violet Dahl, Mik Scarlett, and Candy Gourlay.
