We are delighted to announce that Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker return to London in February 2015 for a landmark celebration at the Barbican and Southbank Centre.
Sir Simon has chosen to mark his 60th birthday with this major London residency including five concerts which focuses on the music that means the most to him: a complete cycle of Sibelius symphonies in honour of the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth, Mahler's Symphony No.2 and music by Helmut Lachenmann.
The residency also includes city-wide work with school children, together with family concerts and chamber music to be announced in 2014.
The London Residency begins at the Barbican Centre with a complete cycle of Sibelius symphonies and Sibelius’ Violin Concerto with Leonidas Kavakos in three concerts from 10 – 12 February 2015. On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 February 2015, Rattle brings one of his signature pieces, Mahler Symphony No.2 to Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall featuring mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and soprano Kate Royal, performed alongside Lachenmann’s Tableau. You can book for all five concerts through the Southbank Centre ticket office.
Southbank Centre would like to thank the Hollick Family Charitable Trust and Susie Thomson for their generous support of The London Residency.
