Gustav Holst: Music from The Planets
Michael Tippett: A Child of our Time
A Choir of Our Time brings together young singers and musicians to perform Michael Tippett's A Child of Our Time.
Hear singers from Morley College and eight community choirs in Lambeth and Southwark, perform with members of the BBC Singers and London Philharmonic Orchestra and young orchestral musicans.
Committed pacifist Sir Michael Tippett conceived A Child of Our Time to communicate a universal message of tolerance in an era of growing outrages before the Second World War. The oratorio draws musical inspiration from Bach and Handel, and from African American spirituals.
First performed in 1944 by the Morley College Choir, where Tippett was Director of Music, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, this performance is conducted by Morley's current Director of Music, Andrea Brown.
Music from The Planets suite by Gustav Holst is conducted by Benjamin Ellin and performed by members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and young orchestral musicians from across London.Performers
