This weekend we are bringing the art and culture of Deptford to Southbank Centre in collaboration with local partners and residents. Throughout the weekend Southbank Centre will be filled with performances, workshops, exhibitions and films inspired by Deptford and featuring the artists and organisations who live and work there. Whether you've lived in Deptford your whole life or never visited this South London district come and join us to discover what Deptford has to offer and share your own stories about SE8.

My Deptford - FREE Saturday activities

The Clore Ballroom at Royal Festival Hall

Family Storytelling Workshops
11am - 12 noon

MakeBelieve Arts will lead a family storytelling workshop based on The Helicopter Technique. Children's stories are listened to, written down word for word and acted out by others, helping them develop their creative imagination, confidence, vocabulary, communication and listening skills.
The workshop is open to families with children aged 2-5.
Please note that parents will be asked to stay and join in.

Family Dance Workshop
12.30pm - 1.30pm

A fun and energetic dance workshop with Bethan Peters, a dance artist from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Deptford. Children aged five and over are invited to come along with their parents and carers to learn lively dance routines and enjoy a friendly Saturday afternoon boogie in The Clore Ballroom.

Music Theatre Workshop: All That Jazz
2pm - 3pm

Join Montage Theatre Arts for a music theatre masterclass open to all abilities! Whether you're an absolute beginner or already love to sing and dance, learn to razzle dazzle them with a fun and friendly session on All That Jazz from Chicago. Open to all ages and abilities but better suited to the over-nines.

Radical Raccoons
4pm - 4.30pm

Describing their sound as a 'rocky, punky, funky thing' Aldean Blair, Chris Brierley, Harry Miles, Isaac Palm, Ned Smith and Sam Walker are the Radical Raccoons, taking their audiences on epic musical adventures inspired by pop, jazz, rock and soul. Their unique sound and explosive performance style captures the true spirit of punk.
Please note: this event takes place in the Central Bar of Royal Festival Hall

When it's Night Time
5pm - 5.50pm

When it's night time the children are tucked up fast asleep...
As the minutes, quarters, halves and hours turn, we are awake, we are in bed, but we are not sleeping, we are in the middle of the city, we are eating, we are dancing, we are breaking our promises, we are writing, we are waiting. The Albany's Uncover Youth Theatre company presents an exploration of London as darkness falls.

Deptford Calling
6.30pm - 9.30pm

Join us for a loud and lively night celebrating the best music, poetry and spoken word to come out of Deptford. Featuring poetry and spoken word from Apples & Snakes' Writing Room, Spread the Word's Spoke Young Poet Laureate project and Entelechy Arts, with music and DJing from the Albany's Uncover Young Music company and a set from the beautifully haunting Jerkcurb. Help compere Jacob Sam-La Rose raise the roof of The Clore Ballroom.
