Amrou Al-Kadhi and Holly Falconer on Glamrou (2016)

The photographic portrait Glamrou (2016) – currently on display at Hayward Gallery as part of Kiss My Genders – is a collaboration between writer, filmmaker and drag performer Amrou Al-Kadhi and photographer Holly Falconer.

For this portrait, which was originally shot for Cause & Effect magazine and styled by Amnah Hafez, the pair used a triple exposure to communicate the fractured experience of being in drag as a person of Muslim heritage.

The image is all about looking at how difficult it can be to merge a queer identity with a religious upbringing.
