Enjoy our Classical Christmas playlist

Tuesday, November 28, 2017 - 11:11

From the heavily decorated trees on our Riverside Terrace, to our Wintertime Market and the lights strung from the Royal Festival Hall, it won’t have escaped your notice that Christmas is now less than a month away.

But as friends of Southbank Centre we feel you deserve more than another ear assault of Slade and Wham each time you venture out onto the High Street, and so we’ve put together this classical Christmas playlist to help you through, and yes, it does include the Nutcracker.

Our playlist offers you a mix of centuries-old music inspired by winter and Christmas time, and includes some firm classical favourites, as well as some more modern takes on the festive season. Included for your enjoyment are a 21st century version of the nativity from John Adams, a rare 1913 recording of Claude Debussy himself on piano, and the Berliner Philharmoniker, who you can hear live, here at Southbank Centre in May.

Our 2017/18 classical season continues through December and into the new year.

And, as mentioned above, Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker join us at Southbank Centre on 30-31 May 2018
