Hillary Rodham Clinton: What Happened by Southbank Centre

In 2016 Hillary Rodham Clinton made history as the first woman to be nominated for the US presidential candidacy by a major political party. In this candid interview with James Naughtie on the Royal Festival Hall stage she discusses her personal memoir of the tumultuous election campaign that followed.

In her only London appearance, Rodham Clinton discusses the highs and lows of that remarkable race for the White House, as well as the rituals, relationships and reading that got her back on her feet, what the experience has taught her about life, and how ‘there is no such thing as an alternative fact’.

What happened was a perfect storm; it included the mood of our electorate, the torrent of resentment, grievance, fear, anxiety and anger that was felt in a number of parts of our country
