Southbank Centre’s Book Podcast: Louis Theroux in conversation

In a very special episode of Southbank Centre’s Book Podcast, recorded in our Royal Festival Hall in late September 2019, documentary-maker and broadcaster Louis Theroux discusses his book, Gotta Get Theroux This, and his two decades of documentaries with comedian and podcaster, Adam Buxton.

In a typically entertaining discussion the long-term friends discuss Theroux’s distinctive interview style and techniques, some of his most notable documentaries – those on the subjects of Michael Jackson, and eating disorders – and how odd it is that someone who had a tattoo of Louis, might deem turning up to see him in person a stretch too far.

It’s easy to overstate the importance of the silences. A silence is like a hole; it’s meaningless without the earth around it. A silence is defined by the thing that is not the silence.

As a charity, we rely on ticket sales for a huge chunk of our income. But now they’ve stopped. And it's a huge worry to us, and the people we work with. We all need the escape of art and culture; it can inspire and unite us. So please – if you can afford to – consider a donation to the Southbank Centre today, to help us be there for you in the future.
