Why the finance industry needs to #beboldforchange

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #beboldforchange. Change can come in many forms, and at UBS we’re focusing on bringing about change in our own industry and the way we cater for women.
The global income of women will grow from $13 trillion to $18 trillion by 2021. In addition, women hold around 30% of global private wealth, and are seeing their wealth grow at a faster rate than men.
Despite this, the wealth management industry is not serving female investors as well as it could. Women have told us that they don’t feel that the industry understands their values, needs and goals.
Over the past two years, UBS Wealth Management has been developing approaches to better serve our female clients. We’ve found that women want to look beyond investment outcomes, focusing more on the purpose of wealth itself.
Women are also much more focused on investing to achieve positive social change and according to data from UBS, female investors could be set to invest $2.3 trillion in improving social good by 2021. We want to help them achieve this.
In January, we launched a five-year programme which makes serving women better a business priority.
This includes making our services more tailored to women’s needs, as well as making our own workforce more diverse.
We’ve also set a target of improving the financial confidence of 1 million women by 2021. It’s ambitious, but we need to #beboldforchange if we want to ensure the financial industry is truly inclusive.
