We’re deeply saddened to hear of the death of our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen

Everyone at the Southbank Centre sends their heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family. It’s with our deepest gratitude that we honour Her Majesty’s extraordinary and long-standing contribution to national life.

Visiting our site during National Mourning

During the period of National Mourning for Her Majesty The Queen, and the Lying-in-State, the area around the Southbank Centre is expected to be busy. Please read on for updates on visiting during this time, and how we are observing the period of mourning.

Changes to our opening hours

To mark The Queen’s funeral, the Royal Festival Hall is closed on Monday 19 September.

Queuing for the Lying-in-State

For those queuing in the area for Her Majesty’s Lying-in-State at Westminster Hall, cafe and toilet facilities are available through the night in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Just show your queue wristband on entry. Facilities are available in the Royal Festival Hall during the daytime and early evening.

State Funeral screening

We are screening the State Funeral in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Monday 19 September. Capacity is limited, and free admittance is on a first come, first served basis from 9am. The building is only open to visitors wishing to watch the funeral. The screening ends at approximately 1.15pm and the building is closed for the rest of the day.

Our condolence book

For anyone who wishes to add their own message, a book of condolence for The Queen can be found in the Royal Festival Hall, in the Green Side Foyer, Level 2, during the day, and in the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer overnight for those who are queuing.

Event changes and cancellations

Most of our events are going ahead as planned, but in light of the period of National Mourning, there may be some changes to our programme. Please check event pages ahead of your visit. For ticketed events, ticket holders will be contacted with any updates. The Hayward Gallery is open as usual.
