Hayward Gallery at 50: Uncovering the Archive

Hayward Gallery Digital Archive

Working in partnership with Google Arts & Culture, Hayward Gallery has digitised archival material from 50 landmark exhibitions that have taken place at the gallery over the past five decades.

Among these exhibitions are one-person shows by Bridget Riley, Anthony Caro and Anish Kapoor, as well as a groundbreaking group shows that include the first major exhibitions in this country devoted to British conceptual art, outsider art, Afro-Asian artists in post-war Britain and the art of sound.

Find out more about the stories behind these exhibitions and trace their conception, development and reception through newly digitised archival materials that include installation plans, posters, exhibition proposals, installation images and reviews.

Conversations in the Archive

This series of short films exploring five seminal exhibitions from the gallery’s history was commissioned by Hayward Gallery with Art Fund support. Each short film features artists and curators who were involved in the exhibitions, with archival material acting as a prompt for reflection and recollection.
