Víkingur Ólafsson, piano

Part of Classical Season 2017/18

The visionary and pioneering Icelandic star Víkingur Ólafsson makes his debut in the International Piano Series.

A household name in his native country, Ólafsson has won all of Iceland’s major music awards, including Musician of the Year four times as well as the Icelandic Optimism Prize.

Ólafsson brings his creative vision to a rich programme featuring Bach’s Partita No.6 in E minor, with its clarity, intellect and immense emotional range.

Followed by a selection of works by Chopin all in the same key, F minor, both composer and performer explore the different poetic worlds woven out of one tonality.

Brahms' ambitious and exuberant Sonata No.3, also in F minor, completes this original programme.

`Amazing virtuosity; monumental, rapt intensity' (The Daily Telegraph).
