The Guardian has described him as 'a force to be reckoned with'.
His programme spotlights a dazzling range of colourful virtuoso music, beginning with works by two fellow countrymen.
After opening with two evocative pieces by Saint-Saëns, he presents Ravel's set of ravishing soundscapes, Miroirs.
The second half is devoted to the high romanticism of Franz Liszt. The Jeux d'eau de la villa d'Este and the Petrarch Sonnet No.123 show the composer at his most lyrical.
They are followed by a sizzling transcription from Verdi's Il Trovatore. The evening closes with Liszt's evocation of Italian scenes and atmospheres, Venezia e Napoli, energetic music that seems drenched in golden sunlight.
