Part of Imagine Children's Festival

Reconnect with nature in this tree-hugging virtual reality experience.

Treehugger is the world’s first virtual reality experience that aims to shift our mindset from consumerism to conservation, through a huge replicated model of a giant sequoia tree and a Vive VR headset.

Let yourself be overwhelmed by the scale and wonder of what is arguably the largest living individual organism on earth. The longer you hug, the deeper you drift into a hidden world just beyond the limits of your senses.

Discover the tree’s hidden inner structure: grooves in the bark become giant cliffs, pinecones feel like the Sydney Opera House. Those who continue hugging are sucked into ‘tree time’, where they experience neuron-like energy flows in the treetop canopy.

In this new interactive media installation, you look up to bask in the wonder of the top branches, and look down to get vertigo.

The Cinekid Foundation, STRP, Southbank Centre and Migrations have co-commissioned Treehugger, developed by London-based studio Marshmallow Laser Feast.
