City of London Sinfonia presents Modern Mystics: The Protecting Veil

Part of Classical Season

Journey to the centre of Sir John Taverner’s The Protecting Veil through living programme notes, in a performance by the City of London Sinfonia and Matthew Barley.

Part of Southbank Centre’s year-long festival, Belief and Beyond Belief, The Protecting Veil blurs the lines between humanity and divinity – a glimpse into otherworldliness through the rituals and seasons celebrated around Mary, the Mother of God.

Move even closer to the powerful music in this performance with City of London Sinfonia and Matthew Barley, as they invite audiences to explore the music’s meaning through Living Programme Notes.

In this performance directed from the cello by Matthew Barley, the venue is transformed through lighting and intimate seating, so as to immerse the audience in Taverner’s ecstatic vision.
