2020: Christmas Oratorio

Part of Classical Season 2020/21

Hark: it’s the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir performing the world premiere of James MacMillan’s seasonal piece.

When MacMillan writes a new choral work, the world takes notice.

It’s no secret that his music is inspired by a profound and passionate religious faith – but it’s equally true that he writes with an energy, a commitment and an imaginative fire that give his music a universal appeal.

‘Beauty is at the heart of our Christian faith’, he says, and there’s little doubt that his new Christmas Oratorio finds something utterly original in this gentlest and most joyous of sacred stories.

With Vladimir Jurowski conducting the London Philharmonic Choir and two outstanding soloists, this premiere is a major occasion for listeners of all faiths, or none.
