South Bank Poetry Tour

Part of Southbank Centre Tours

Accompany Chris McCabe, Poetry Librarian and author of Real South Bank, as he leads a tour exploring the centuries of poetic activity in this area of London.

The tour begins at The Poetry Library with an overview of the collections. Then see the hidden poems written into the pavements outside Royal Festival Hall, as Chris gives a sense of the building as a major site of poetic activity.

Find out about the notorious French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who lived on nearby Stamford Street in the 1870s. Then experience a poetic audio by poet Tom Chivers, while walking to the site of William Blake’s house on Hercules Road.

The tour ends at Jubilee Gardens, where the Rain of Poems took place in 2012, before returning to the library for a chance to see some of the collection’s rare gems.
