Gyal in da Corner: Women in Grime

Part of WOW – Women of the World

What album gave you permission to be who you are, to let go, to find your voice?

Debris Stevenson remembers how Grime gave her permission to redefine success against the odds, 13 years after Dizzee Rascal’s genre-defining album, Boy in da Corner, and with that in mind, has curated this WOW special event, featuring an international all female line up of emcees, DJs, producers and poets.

Astounding female Grime and rap artists from around the world meet on stage to smash open stories in a rave, pirate radio station and everything in between.

Performers include AG the DJ, emcee TrueMendous, journalist and battle rapper Bridie Squires (aka Brizzaling), singer-songwriter Emily Franklin, Asher X, plus new tracks from Producer Bamz.

Debris Stevenson is a poet, emcee and dancer who has performed in The Roundhouse London, Nuyorican Poetry Cafe NYC, Haven for Artists Lebanon, The National Theatre of Slovakia, open air stages in Koln and more. She has also collaborated with Lady Leshurr for Trevor Nelson’s show on BBC 1xtra, danced for Kurupt FM and published poetry with Louis Vuitton.
