Finnish Runosong with Pekka Kuusisto and Ilona Korhonen

Part of Nordic Music Days

Ilona Korhonen is an expert in runo song, an ancient Finnish tradition that fuses song, poetry and storytelling. Through figures such as 19th-century poet and singer Larin Paraske, runo song played a central role in the development of Finnish national identity. Pekka Kuusisto is a leading Finnish violinist, steeped in his country’s musical heritage and well known for his boundary-crossing musical collaborations.
