literature & poetry

Susan Wilkins headlines London’s beloved literary salon this evening, with the final instalment in her Kaz Phelps Trilogy, The Killer, out now.

Polari returns to Southbank Centre for a tenth summer showcasing inspiring and always fabulous voices in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender words and lives.

Susan leads the roll call of talent this month. Having completed a degree in law, and a stint as a journalist, Susan embarked on a career in television drama. She has written numerous scripts for shows including Casualty, Heartbeat, Coronation Street and EastEnders, as well as creating and writing the London-based detective drama South of the Border. Her first novel, The Informant, was longlisted for The Polari First Book Prize in 2015.

Susan is joined by Paul Flynn, author of his luminous queer history: Good As You: From Prejudice to Price – 30 Years of Gay Britain, along with Emma Flint, Allie Rogers and Jon Appleton, who read from their latest work.

We also announce the longlist for The Polari First Book Prize 2017.

Polari is curated and hosted by acclaimed author and journalist, Paul Burston.
