Concerto for Beatboxer and Orchestra

Part of New Music Biennial

Hear a concerto performed by Southbank Sinfonia and a beatboxer ensemble, created by Anna Meredith and Shlomo. The performance also stars a yet-to-be announced beatbox soloist.

Anna Meredith is a composer, producer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music. Her work straddles the worlds of contemporary classical, avant-pop and experimental rock, and is often described as ‘maximalist’ and ‘uncategorisable’.

In 2010, Southbank Centre commissioned Anna and renowned beatboxer Schlomo to write a new piece for beatboxers and orchestra. The concerto that resulted is an acclaimed modern classical work that recognises the human voice box as a musical instrument.

Presented in association with the PRS Foundation
