Missing From History

Part of WOW – Women of the World

Celebrate disabled heroines who have been written out of history or whose disability has been wiped from their popular narrative, in WOW’s Missing From History series.

In partnership with Sisters of Frida

Illustrations by Ziyue Chen

Born profoundly deaf and raised in Sunny Island, Singapore, Ziyue Chen (pronounced Zzz-yuair) is a graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design. Her life goal is to have an emotional connection with those who view her work.

Early in her career she worked as an animator on projects dedicated to children's art and creative thinking. Later on, Ziyue discovered her keen interest in storytelling through illustration, and with a scholarship and support from her loved ones, she took the opportunity to study illustration in the USA. Since then, she has worked on books and other illustration projects for children.
