Maurizio Pollini: Chopin & Debussy

Part of Classical music

Legendary maestro Maurizio Pollini performs some of Chopin's best-loved works in this classic programme.

Two beautiful Nocturnes introduce the Polonaise – the Polish dance genre that provoked in Chopin an outpouring of pride and nostalgia for his homeland. This sentimental journey continues with one of the Mazurkas, Op.56 No.3, with its sense of longing. The Berceuse is a tender lullaby, and the concert's first half ends with Scherzo No.3 – a feverish dance with something of the revolutionary about it.

In the second half, Pollini performs Debussy’s entire first set of Preludes, with their evocative colours offering glimpses of Spain, Italy and Scotland.
