Nobuyuki Tsujii: Satie, Debussy & Chopin

Part of Classical Season 2018/19

Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii (Nobu), who has been blind from birth, won the joint Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009.

He has gone on to earn an international reputation for the passion and excitement he brings to his live performances.

In his International Piano Series debut, Nobu performs a programme of Satie, Debussy, Ravel and Chopin.

The mood of contemplation and introspection that permeates the French music in the first half of the programme is shaken by the energy and passion of Chopin’s volatile Scherzi, which we hear after the interval.

Marine romanticism [of David Matthews’ ‘A Vision of the Sea’] was followed by the unparalleled excitement of hearing the 24-year-old Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii... It was one of those rare performances where player and music seem one - a definition of virtuosity
