literature & poetry

Polari returns to unleash its special brand of festive shimmer this winter. Celebrated for landmark depictions of LGBTQ+ hearts and lives, new and leading writers join curator and host Paul Burston in seasonal havoc and sparkle.

Survive this Christmas with Aunty Val, aka poet and comedian VG Lee, and author of the bestselling pamphlet You’re never alone with a pan-fried chicken.

Also expect readings from Tony Peake, Susie Boyt, William Parker and Ian Elmslie.

VG Lee is the critically acclaimed author of five novels and a collection of short stories. She has been nominated for a Stonewall Award for writing and won the Ultimate Planet Award for Best Established Author. She is currently working on The Book of Deirdre – a comic novel based on a fictional character beloved by many of her readers.

Polari is a unique mix of voices that provokes the strongest responses from its audience – love, laughter, tears, but most of all, thought.
Val McDermid
Never dull, always different – laughter, tears, and one of the warmest audiences I've ever read in front of. (Mind you someone had been messing with the thermostat).
Jonathan Harvey
