Transatlantic Rhapsodies

Lewisham Choral Society performs stunning music from both sides of ‘the pond’, with works by British and American composers.

They present joyous works by British composer Jonathan Dove, and American composer Randall Thompson’s beautiful Fare Well.

The programme includes two works by renowned choral composer Eric Whitacre, When David Heard and Sleep.

Transatlantic Rhapsodies also features The Bromley Boy Singers, who have recently celebrated their 40th anniversary and are renowned for their technical quality and ability to captivate audiences.

They sing Broadside Ballads by James Lark, a work specially commissioned for them and premiered to great acclaim last year. In 2015, they won the Cornwall International Choral Festival and their international performance venues have included both Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral and Disneyland, Paris.

Nico de Villiers and James Orford play a spirited two-piano version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Lewisham Choral Society has performed to packed houses at Royal Festival Hall, and at other major venues in London and beyond. They have sung twice in Paris and their 2018 schedule includes the opening Jubilee concert of the Blankensee Summer Music Festival near Berlin.

The choir's collaborations have included working with the Young Vic, an opera company, and even a punk band.
