Young Adult Literature Weekender Sunday Pass

Part of Young Adult Literature Weekender

Hear from fiction writers, spoken word artists and bloggers in a day of talks and workshops, all part of Young Adult Literature Weekend.

Sunday’s events include a panel of four contributors from the A Change Is Gonna Come anthology discussing the importance of change in YA fiction writing by BAME authors. The lineup includes Nikesh Shukla, Tanya Byrne and Inua Ellams, chaired by blogger and reviewer Mariam Khan.

We also welcome Tracy Chevalier, author of eight novels including international bestseller Girl with a Pearl Earring, who speaks of her new novel New Boy, a retelling of Shakespeare’s Othello set in 1970s America.

The day’s events are hosted by poet and performer Yomi Sode.

12.30pm – 1.15pm: Young Producers Performance
The stage of the Clore Ballroom is taken over by our group of Young Producers, who join us to perform some of the best work to come out of their project.

1.15pm – 2pm: Stranger than Fiction
Strange cults and weird societies with their own ideas about the world do exist, and do end up making headlines around the world. We hear from two authors who draw on weird tales from reality and have weaved them in to narratives that sit on the edge between reality and fiction. Featuring Laure Eve, author of novels Fearsome Dreamer, The Illusionists and The Graces, and Will Hill, whose YA novel, After the Fire, has recently been announced as a Zoella Book Club pick for the summer.

2pm – 2.45pm: Ben Alderson – Book Club
Join book vlogger Ben Alderson (Benjaminoftomes) for a book club chat on Wonder Woman: Warbringer (DC Icons Series) by Leigh Bardugo. Leigh Bardugo is the New York Times bestselling author of Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom, and the Grisha Trilogy. She is the first author in the DC Icons Series, where the DC Comics super hero icons are written by super star young adult authors.

2.15pm – 3pm: Change Is Gonna Come
On Sunday some amazing contributors from the A Change Is Gonna Come anthology appear on a panel discussing the importance of change in YA fiction writing by BAME authors. This stellar line up includes writers Nikesh Shukla, Tanya Byrne and Inua Ellams, and will be chaired by blogger and reviewer Mariam Khan.

3.15pm – 4pm World on the Brink
This year's London Literature Festival looks at the theme of World on the Brink. Where are we heading as we see more and more things getting cut and everything seems to be getting harder, more expensive, darker? We welcome three authors who all write about worlds where darkness prevails, and their characters have to fight to survive and ask, is dystopian fiction popular because it might actually be showing us how to deal with reality? Joining us for this discussion are Samantha Shannon, Alwyn Hamilton and Sif Sigmarsdóttir.

4.15pm – 5pm: Tracy Chevalier & Sally Gardner
Bestselling American-British author of Girl with A Pearl Earring Tracy Chevalier joins us for the finale event to discuss her new YA novel, New Boy, a retelling of Othello set over the course of a single day in a school playground in Washington DC. Tracy is in conversation with multi award-winning novelist Sally Gardner, whose new book My Side of the Diamond is released on 5 October.
