Leonidas Kavakos & Yuja Wang

Part of Women in Music at Southbank Centre

The renowned violinist Leonidas Kavakos and acclaimed pianist Yuja Wang return to Royal Festival Hall.

Regular performance partners, they have received rave reviews for concerts such as their collaboration on Brahms’ sonatas at the Barbican in 2014. The Financial Times commented: ‘As a package they showcased the emotional extremes of which the musicians had already proven themselves to be well capable.’

Kavakos has performed regularly at Southbank Centre over the years, including a six-day residency as an Artist in Focus in the 2009/10 season and as a soloist with our resident orchestras the Philharmonia and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Yuja Wang has appeared often in Southbank Centre’s International Piano Series and as a soloist. The Independent commented on her most recent IPS appearance: ‘no other pianist can marshal huge fistfuls of notes at hurtling speed with such insouciant confidence.’

His performance … had a rapt intensity that held his audience spellbound. Kavakos knows how to play quietly yet still command attention
