Hear a range of lively perspectives and stories on what makes a man, from a diverse line-up of BAM speakers including:
- Kenny Mammarella-D'Cruz, who has run men’s groups for over 15 years
- The Geezers Club, which has been running for around 14 years and was founded by a group of east-end pensioners that sought an alternative to the dressmaking, line-dancing activities of day centres with the support of Age Concern Tower Hamlets Link Age Plus. They have undertaken a number of inter-generational projects, notably the Geezer Power water turbine project and a series of films made in collaboration with young people in the area. On of their recent projects ‘Where’s My Boozer Gone?’ saw them produce a naked calendar to raise awareness of the loss of the local pub, with the damaging impact its having on communities.
- Jerome Harvey-Agyei, who has grown up in the care system which has given him a set of experiences that have given him a passion and purpose to do work helping vulnerable people via Barnardos as an advocate and participation worker. Jerome also runs empowerment workshops, does motivational talks and is a radio host for Don City Radio. He is now working on strategies to inject love into systems to help bring back the meaning behind the work many do. Some of what he has done in recent years includes running for local councilor in 2014; co-founding a voluntary project on Christmas Day (The Tope Project) for care leavers to help combat loneliness at Christmas; and become an ambassador for Free Your Mind CIC, a service working to help anxiety, depression, panic attacks and childhood domestic violence.
