Stories Under Siege

Part of Belief and Beyond Belief

We are living in a world where every minute, nearly 20 people are forced to leave their homes as a result of conflict or persecution (UNHCR statistic, 2017).

Hear the voices of people whose stories and lives have been shaped by the experience of religious and political conflict in This is Who I Am, presented by ice&fire theatre.

'I've seen it happen before. I know what it means. Once you come out over there, you're coming out for problems. Imprisonment. Or bashed to death.'

Hear stories from LGBTQI+ refugees about their experiences of state and communal conflict in their own country and what they face on arrival in the UK. Read by special guest performers, the reading is accompanied by queer songs and followed by a post-show discussion featuring Reverend Kate Harford, the Ecumencial Chaplain at Oxford Brookes University.

The testimonies have been collected over many months of engagement with members of the First Wednesday group at the LGBT Foundation in Manchester. Special thanks also goes to Crisis.
