Deftones

Part of Robert Smith’s Meltdown

Experimental alt-metal band Deftones play a special one-off gig for Robert Smith's Meltdown, supported by Swedish experimental instrumentalists pg.lost.

Originally from Sacramento, California, Deftones stand alone as pioneers of a genre that crosses genres of alternative, rock, metal and shoegaze.

The band was formed in 1988 and founded by Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, and Frank Delgado. Sergio Vega joined the band in 2009.

Often hailed as one of alternative metal's most important and experimental bands, their heavy layered sound is brutal yet beautiful.

Their 1997 album Around the Fur catapulted the band to alt-metal fame on the strength of hit songs such as ‘Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)’ and ‘My Own Summer (Shove It)'.

It was followed by 2000's Grammy-winning White Pony, which incorporated 1980s modern rock influences such as The Cure and The Smiths, and featured the smash hit ‘Change (In The House Of Flies)’.

Deftones’ most recent album is 2016’s critically acclaimed Gore, which Pitchfork described as ‘easily Deftones’ most engaging record since White Pony’.
