Sauna Sundays Sessions

Part of Nordic Matters

Experience something truly different on a Sunday: step into our Finnish Rooftop Sauna and get a culture fix at the same time. Whether you’re looking to get whipped by revitalising leaves or take in a talk on dance and performance, this is the sauna like you’ve never seen.

See below for details on individual sessions.

Sunday 3 December
Sauna is all about the body. Listen to a talk with choreographer and performer, Jean Abreu.

Sunday 10 December
Get an even more involved Finnish sauna experience and enjoy a 'Beat to the Balance' sauna ritual by artist Mari Keski-Korsu.

Sunday 17 December
Join us for our final Sauna Session of the season to hear about the marvellous quirky characters of Nordic folklore: perfect for the nights before Christmas.

This year Helsinki honoured ‘sauna’ as its cultural act of the year and public saunas are the hottest trend sweeping Finland, drawing locals and tourists of all ages to meet with friends and family to relax.

Delve further into the Finnish sauna experience with these sessions whilst also getting a taste of Southbank Centre’s world-class talks, debates and participation programme. The talks take place inside the sauna with time allowed for breaks to cool down.

You also meet a sauna expert who demonstrates steaming stones and introduces you to the authentic sauna experience. Reaching 90 degrees celsius inside, you can then cool down in the open air (or with cold water buckets if you’re feeling brave), all while enjoying exclusive views over the River Thames.

With only 16 spaces available, these are one-off experiences that shouldn’t be missed.
