Anna Meredith & Southbank Sinfonia Present 'Varmints'

Anna Meredith presents her award-winning debut album Varmints, with her band and the Southbank Sinfonia orchestra.

These brand new 'Varmints' arrangements for electronic and orchestral forces expand her critically acclaimed live show.

Described by Pitchfork as ‘one of the most innovative voices in British music’, Anna Meredith is a genre-crossing composer and producer whose work straddles the worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, electronica and experimental rock.

Her band are Jack Ross, Tom Kelly, Sam Wilson and Maddie Cutter.

After building a career in the classical world with two critically acclaimed EPs, she released her much-anticipated debut album, Varmints, on Moshi Moshi Records in March 2016.

It received 4- and 5-star reviews from the likes of The Wire, The Sunday Times, UNCUT, Q magazine, and the coveted Best New Music [8.4] on Pitchfork.

In March 2017, the band went on their first US tour, including performances at SXSW, which The New York Times reviewed as ’sheer exhilaration’.

Anna is a Composer in Residence for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and has written a piece for an MRI scanner, the soundtrack for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2015 campaign, symphonies for nursery children, and music for park benches in Hong Kong and sleep-pods in Singapore.

Her body-percussion piece ’HandsFree’ received rave reviews from performances at Southbank Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Centre, Utah Youth Symphony, the new Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and even a flash-mob of the M6 motorway service station.

Recent performances at the BBC Proms have included collaborations with Laura Marling and The Stranglers for the first 6 Music Prom, arrangements for the BBC David Bowie Prom and her Last Night of the Proms composition, which was simultaneously performed by five symphony orchestras across the UK and broadcast to an audience of 40 million people.
