School Takeover Day - Andreas Gursky Exhibition

Part of Andreas Gursky Exhibition

Mark the reopening of Hayward Gallery with the education team at Southbank Centre, as we host a special day for primary schools, led by young gallery guides who have designed the day inspired by their own experience of the exhibition.

For the first time in Hayward Gallery’s history, we hand the exhibition space over to schools for a large-scale schools takeover. Here, teachers and pupils have sole use of the gallery at the Andreas Gursky exhibition, the first major UK retrospective of the work of one of the most significant photographers of our time.

Pupils can explore the artwork, take part in creative workshops and be led around the exhibition by our group of young tour guides from local primary schools.

For this schools day we have space for up to 300 students to take part. All schools taking part should arrive as close to 10am as possible for a 10.30am start. There is an introduction from the children who are leading the day on what to expect and then the groups split in two. Half of the school groups go straight to the gallery and the other half take part in a Gursky workshop, also designed by the young gallery guides. After lunch the two groups swap. then come back together again before the day is finished at 2.15pm. Teachers leave with resource packs to further explore the work in the classroom.
