Part of Nordic Matters

Learn Finnish tango, or Fintango in an afternoon of free dancing and music. Fintango is an established variation of the Argentine tango, following the rhythms of Ballroom tango, and was one of the most popular music forms for decades in Finland.

FINTango is led by Teemu Roivainen, a Finnish singer who became known and loved by the public audience after winning a highly popular televised singing competition in 2014, in which the winner is crowned the King of Tango. Roivainen has worked both as a musician and as a producer and has published four studio albums.

The Finnish tango is dark and solemn, with deep, sorrowful tones that evoke emotions of wistfulness, regret and longing for the homeland or a distant land of happiness.

Its popularity can be seen in Finnish summer highlight, the Tangomarkkinat, or tango festival, held annually since 1985 in the central Finnish town of Seinäjoki. The festival attracts more than 100,000 participants annually and is capped by the coronation of the tango King and Queen.

This event is part of the 'Finland100' celebrations.
