Being Well

Part of WOW – Women of the World

Women often struggle to get the support they need for medical issues, whether it’s because of lacking knowledge regarding particular illnesses, shame around personal health problems, or a whole range of barriers to them accessing medical care.

We bring together a panel of speakers to discuss ways to find health-related support across a range of different issues.

Recent reports have suggested that women are more likely to die after a heart attack because the research around aftercare has always been based on studies involving men. Conditions such as endometriosis take on average 7.5 years to diagnose. We look at why women are waiting so long for help and the reasons that there is such inequality in medical research and and treatment.

Being Well is chaired by founder and editor of The Femedic, the first website to couple medical information with lifestyle content, Monica Karpinski, and includes Marion Wadibia, CEO of NAZ, an organisation which offers offers a range of services for people to manage and maintain better sexual health, particularly in Black and Ethnic Minority communities; Eleanor Lisney, campaigner and Founder of Sisters of Frida, a disabled women's collective; Neelam Heera of Cysters, which supports women with gynaecological and sexual health health issues; and Philippa Hobson, Senior Cardiac Nurse for the British Heart Foundation
