Behind the Pipes

Part of Classical Season 2018/19

Get up close and personal with the Royal Festival Hall 103-Stop Harrison and Harrison Organ in this workshop with Southbank Centre Organ Curator William McVicker and Southbank Centre's Dame Gillian Weir Organ Scholar.

In this interactive session, we discuss and explore:
- the origins and development of this unique instrument
- how the organ gets its power and makes music (including some time inside the organ case)
- repertoire best suited for this organ
- stories from the organ greats of our time in the Royal Festival Hall

You also get a chance to play the instrument in all its glory. Join us for an afternoon of casual conversation and discovery celebrating the king of instruments.
