Les Amazones d'Afrique

Experience the power of Les Amazones d’Afrique, West Africa's first all-female supergroup campaigning for gender equality over a soundtrack of funk, blues and dub.

Formed in the fight against violence towards women, this incredible collective brings together some of the greatest Malian musicians of the moment: Mamani Keita (vocals), Rokia Koné (vocals), Awa Sangho (vocals), Joseph Palmer (drums), Mariam Koné (backing vocals), Mamadou Diakite (guitar) and Llorens Barcelo (keys).

Blending funk and blues with ancient rhythms, Les Amazones d'Afrique use their music to fight for freedom, for being female and for being a musician.

The group performs from their debut album République Amazone, described as a 'love letter to men', which made The Guardian's top 50 albums of 2017.

... infectious energy... a triumph ****
