Les Amazones d'Afrique

Experience the power of Les Amazones d’Afrique, an all-female collective of west African musicians campaigning for gender equality.

The ‘supergroup’ brings together acclaimed musicians fighting violence against women: Mamani Keita (vocals), Rokia Koné (vocals), Awa Sangho (vocals), Joseph Palmer (drums), Mariam Koné (backing vocals), Mamadou Diakite (guitar) and Llorens Barcelo (keys).

Using music to address the attitudes and prejudices perpetuating the disempowerment of women across Africa, the group performs from their debut album République Amazone, which blends funk and blues with ancient rhythms.

... infectious energy... a triumph ****
