LIGHT - Marici Saxes

Part of Classical Season 2018/19

See a new side to the saxophone with a diverse palette of music from this all-female quartet of classically trained saxophonists.

The four members of the group bring together musicianship and rich harmony of tone to well-known classics and some original compositions.

A programme of beautiful melodies from around the world featuring favourites from Richard Rodney Bennett, Michael Nyman and John Tavener, as well as new explorations into Balkan, Chinese and Native American music.

Tonight’s concert opens with one of Michael Nyman’s pieces, following the quartet’s recent trip to Italy to work with the English composer. This new programme also includes an original composition by quartet member Josie Simmons.
